Community Life as a Daughter of the Cross

The community is a mystery of love lived in deep faith in the grace of God which restores and reconciles. As a result of this, difficulties and difference will be considered as means for the community to grow in union, witnessing to the kingdom in joy and peace. ( Cons. Art. 102)

Living in fraternal community means choosing to live with god and with others, for god and for others. In this way, the community is a place of conversation for each Daughter of the Cross. It is a place where one forgets self in order to open one’s heart to the other and others. It provides real support for each sister in her human and spiritual growth. It is a place where each is ever attentive to the other, Both in silence and in dialogue; a place of humility, so essential to true freedom, a place of communion and solitude, of celebration and forgiveness.

Mother Marie-Therese was lovingly attentive to everything which concerned each community, each individual sister, her joy and difficulties. She watched over each sister’s spiritual and apostolic formation. When her health was good and the distance not too great, she visited her sisters in the various communities. She knew how to encourage, to guide, to correct with love, and to forgive.

Still today, the Daughters of the Cross seek to build communities of faith, centered on the Eucharist and nourished by prayer, in order to fulfill the congregation’s apostolic mission. Every sister has her own share of responsibility and each needs to be made welcome, given recognition and supported in the commitments given to her by her superiors.

The spirit of the Daughters of the Cross is above all one of simplicity and dedication: simplicity of intension, seeking only God’s glory, simplicity of speech, marked by loyalty, discretion and tact, simplicity of action, always involving a single – mindedness. Their dedication is rooted in self – forgetfulness and generous acceptance of demands of obedience.
