Ministries

We the Daughters of the Cross following in the footsteps of Blessed Marie Therese whose spirituality and service was inspired by the love of God as shown to us in the passion and death of Jesus Christ. As Blessed Marie Therese in her day, we continue today to meet the needs f the most suffering members of our society in the spirit of Art. 8 of our Constitutions, which excludes no work of mercy and in a manner sensitive to the widely different cultures and settings in which we minister. In a spirit of dialogue, transparency and collaboration we sisters discern the structure and systems that need to be modified to meet the ever changing demands of our ministries.

Health Apostolate:
“If I ever found a religious congregation, I shall have sisters to nurse the sick”. -Mother Marie Therese

Our aim in Health ministry is to empower the rural poor by providing preventive and curative holistic health care to the patients, their families and the surrounding areas. Holistic Health is the physical, mental, spiritual, social, psychological, emotional and economic well being of a person. Our Health centers and Hospitals are mainly situated in the rural areas of West Bengal, and Nepal. People around are made aware of health hazards. We have been able to treat patients who come to our Health Centers and through mobile clinics.

Pastoral Apostolate:
Our communities are part of the local church. To enhance the effectiveness of our presence we organise planned family visits to promote family prayer/Rosary and thus improve the quality of family life. Sisters are involved in parish activities such as, catechism, sodality preparation for Baptism, confirmation, marriage etc. We actively participate in Parish activities, pious organisations and Women’s movements. We move from Contemplation to Action. We extend our Service to all the sections of the society.

Social Apostolate:
In everything which concerns our apostolic tasks regard for the signs of the times, in accordance with our Charism, is asked of all of us….care for social justice, essential to peace among peoples, stands out as a sign of particular importance. Sisters have shown much interest in finding out ways and means through surveys and projects in collaboration with private agencies etc to give better service to the needy in the rural areas.

Prison Apostolate:
Since our Congregation started during French Revolution, the prison ministry was one of our special apostolates. In the early history of the Congregation, we were engaged in caring for the prisoners and in their rehabilitation. Even today, the prison ministry holds a special place among our various ministries. In order to rejuvenate the charism by going back to the roots of meaningful and effective ministry we entered in to the prison ministry in the province. To this end we opened a house in Delhi in 2014 and one of our sisters work in Tihar jail under the banner of Prison Ministry India. She meets the inmates under trials and convicts with courage and strength deriving from Jesus Crucified.

Teaching Ministry: As the Daughters of the Cross, the Cross of Christ the sign of peace and Love, the centre of our Beloved Foundress Blessed Marie Therese‘s life from which she drew her strength and inspiration, urges us , her daughters to be educators in Joy and Hope. Therefore, in the spirit of our foundress we are committed to the education of the children. Our common vision that binds our school communities keeps us at the service of the Church and the nation. Our Schools promote the total growth of the child- physical, spiritual, intellectual and emotional so as to help the child to grow into an integrated person. The

Weakest and poorest have a definite place in our schools, hospitals, dispensaries, hostels and old age homes.
