Daughters of the Cross Convent, Jordighi was established on 7th January 2011 on the Feast of our Foundress Mother Marie Therese Haze. It was late Bishop Alphonse D’Souza who invited the Daughters of the Cross to his Diocese to start a new mission in Jordighi. The foundation stone for the convent was blessed by him. Sr. Mariam Lakra was appointed as a Sister in charge of the community and Sr. Anu James as an assistant teacher of St. Mary’s Primary School run by the diocese of Raiganj. On 15th September 2012 Daughters of the Cross Convent at Jordighi was canonically raised to a community. Sr. Rita Perumadan was made the first Superior of Jordighi convent.
Phones (Superior): + 91 33 - 9002308381 At the invitation of Rt. Rev. Bishop Alphonse D’Souza, the Daughters of the Cross ventured into the Diocese of Raiganj. The foundation stone of the Convent was blessed on 7th January 2011 by Rt. Rev. Bishop Alphonse D’Souza, SJ. The pioneers were Sr. Bridget and Sr. Manju Dungdung. The hostel for the girls opened on 9th February 2011 with 17 children. The Diocese ran a Primary school in the Parish. Both the sisters joined the parish school as teachers. As the years passed by the number of the students increased and consequently the number in the hostel too increased to 130. The sisters were residing in a small house as they started the mission. The construction of the convent was complete by 7th January 2012, on the feast of the Foundress, Mother Marie Therese. The Convent and the new Hostel were blessed on 13th April 2012 by Bishop Alphonse D’Souza.
The diocese of Raiganj will remain ever grateful to the late Bishop Alphonse D’Souza SJ for envisaging a hospital in the diocese so that the people get quality health care closer home and avoid travelling to distant places in search of good doctors and quality health care. He invited the Daughters of the Cross to his diocese to open a hospital like Navjeevan Hospital, Gayaganga. The foundation stone for the hospital was laid on 1st May 2018. |
